| Abstract | Materials developed by the Alabama community, junior, and technical colleges as part of a state-funded professional development effort are presented. The first sections provide information on Alabama's systemwide professional development activities; the organization and characteristics of the community, junior, and technical college system; selected characteristics of the two-year college faculty in the state; and the goals, limitations, priorities, and decisions of the professional development task force. The next sections focus on the professional development workshops that are designed and implemented as part of the project. Accomplishments, areas of concern, new initiatives, and milestones are also enumerated with respect to the planning and implementation of the systemwide professional development project. The remainder of the document consists of a workshop manual, focusing on: (1) workshop planning; (2) essential steps and major responsibilities of the instructor/staff planning committee and workshop chairperson; (3) preparing measurable objectives; (4) staff roles and orientation; (5) contacting, selecting, and orienting workshop presenters; (6) budgeting; (7) evaluation; (8) scheduling; and (9) reporting.
