Abstract | In 1978 a team of three people was formed to survey the existing library training facilities in East Africa and to suggest possibilities as to how the elements of information science could be introduced either into existing programs or into special courses organized for the purpose. The team submitted its report to a joint meeting of the Coordinating Centre for Regional Information Training and the Council for Library Training in East Africa in 1979, and in 1980 a meeting of experts from the region was convened to discuss the report and to recommend appropriate action. This report on the experts' meeting comprises: (l) an introduction; (2) information on the organization of the meeting; (3) an explanation of the proceedings; (4) the resolutions and recommendations formulated by the participants; (5) a list of participants; and (6) a daily program schedule. The appendices, which make up the larger part of the report, contain four position papers and country reports presented at the meeting: "Library Training in Ethiopia--Past and Present" (Tesfaye Aldiga); "Library and Archives Assistants Training Programme at Kenya Polytechnic, Nairobi" (S. K. Ng'ang'a); "Position Paper on Tanzania"; and "Country Report: Zambia (University of Zambia)." (THC) |
