Abstract | This curriculum guide consists of materials for use in teaching the first year of a two-year course in marketing and distributive education. Included in the guide are field review information, an introduction, a course outline, unit outlines for use in the first and second semesters of the course, and a bibliography. Topics addressed in the first semester of the course are an overview of marketing, the functions of marketing, the functions of marketing and the free enterprise system, forms of business organization, marketing management, marketing skills, social skills and marketing, beginning skills, and areas of marketing. Covered during the second semester of the course are self-awareness, values clarification, decision making, developing a career-life plan, job search skills, job interview and placement skills, and job maintenance. Each unit contains some or all of the following: a unit outline; a statement of purpose; and a lesson plan that consists of correlated lists of topics, behavioral objectives and learning activities, and related resources as well as one or more supplements in the form of activity sheets, handouts, transparency masters, and survey instruments.
