| Abstract | This elementary school unit on wetland ecology consists of 12 activities and activity packets containing data sheets, activity sheets, flash cards, game cards, and other materials needed to complete the activities. The first activity is the text for a slide-tape show which provides an overview of the entire unit. Each of the remaining activities is then presented under five headings: (1) objective; (2) background; (3) activity; (4) summary; and (5) going further. The objective tells what students can gain from doing the activity. The background gives information about the subject matter of the activity and, when applicable, explains why the activity is important. The summary consists of several questions to be answered after the activity is completed. Going further is a section with suggestions for additional activities. Among the topics considered in the activities (which may be completed in any order) are identifying wetland plants and animals, endangered wetlands, human life in these areas, wetland arts and crafts, how to visit a wetland, and the wetland environment (freshwater marshes, saltwater marshes, swamps, and bogs).
