Abstract | This report proposes a design for teacher training, and for research and development in teaching and learning, that seeks to capitalize on the diversity and adaptivity of teaching and learning in the real world. Chapter I provides an overview of teacher education in the context of educational concerns at large. It discusses the processes of teaching and learning and the ways in which they interact with curriculum and student characteristics. Speculations are offered on the future of teacher education and research in teaching. Chapter II deals with research and development in teacher education in the 1960s. Various technological developments are considered--systems approaches, microteaching, protocol and training films, and flexible scheduling. Also discussed are humanistic reactions to performance-based teacher education. Chapter III considers the role of certain aspects of theory and method in teaching research. The final chapter, chapter IV, deals with the development and operation of a Systematic Teacher Training Model. (JD) |
