Abstract	This course book provides a broad view of the theoretical aspects of instructional media. It is designed to acquaint students with the variety of instructional media that are available, from the simple to the more complex, and their uses in the educational system. The course's purpose is to develop the knowledge and skills which a curriculum developer in Africa requires to make reasonable and responsible media decisions. These decisions are based on nationwide educational objectives and take into account the resources available to meet those objectives. The course is divided into four units: (1) introduction to communication media and technology; (2) a systems approach to the selection and use of instructional media; (3) educational technology in Africa and other developing countries; and (4) mass media in education. A bibliography of references is included. (JD)
