Abstract | This self-instructional module, one volume of a series of competency-based modules in human relations skills for occupational specialists, is designed to help the specialist better understand how to use basic human relations skills with students and others. Other modules in this set of three are Human Relations Skills in Individual Interactions for the Occupational Specialist, and Level II Human Relations Skills for the Occupational Specialist Working with Groups. The module provides a prospectus, which details objectives and explains how to use the module; a flow-chart, which illustrates the self-instructional process; a pre-assessment quiz; and a work plan in chart form. Instructional activities (reading assignments and learning activities) are listed for each of the 10 enabling elements or lessons. The enabling elements deal with communication skills, attending behavior, reflective behavior, interpretive behavior, negotiation, confrontation, self-disclosure, expression and ownership of feelings and thoughts, and ethical guidelines for human relations training. Each lesson includes a self-test; a post-assessment covering the entire module and a bibliography complete the booklet. (JAC) |
