AbstractA resource booklet for teachers contains material for a number of classroom activities that emphasize the month of November. Brief life stories of three notable men (Daniel Boone, Ernesto J. Fonfrias, and Andrew Carnegie) who were born in November are given, as well as lists of five United States presidents with November birthdates and five states added to the United States in November (four in 1889 and one in 1907). The historical background of three November holidays (Armistice Day/Veteran's Day, Puerto Rico Discovery Day, and Thanksgiving) is described. Election Day is discussed in the context of the struggle to obtain voting rights for all Americans. A story from Puerto Rican history ("Yuisa and Pedro Mexias") is told. Black performers and their heritage are discussed briefly. Crossword puzzles, word-matching activities, a black history calendar for November, 13 poems, math and coloring activities, an entertainment quiz, and instructions for other activities are included. Directions for making a jigsaw puzzle, a notebook of famous black writers, and a word game using the names of famous black people are provided. Tables of contents for 11 other monthly "What's Happening" booklets (December, and January-October) are appended. (MH)
