AbstractThis newsletter begins with an interview with Dr. Nora Quebral, Chairman of the Department of Communication at the University of the Philippines at Los Banos, who discussed the past, present, and future of development communication with staff members John Middleton and Heddy Reid. In "The Future of Computers in Education in the Developing World," Jamesine Friend reviews the uses and history of computer-assisted education in the United States and highlights some of the benefits and pitfalls ahead as computers are transferred to the developing world. K. Ofori-Ansa addresses "Africa's Search for Communication Technologies for Education: A Reflection on Problems and Prospects." In "Villagers Teaching Us to Teach Them," John Siceloff describes projects in Peru and Tanzania that used photographs as a village education tool and directly involved villagers in the planning and development of the picture series. Judy Brace's column, "Publications of More than Passing Interest," describes four development resources, while "A Communicator's Checklist" provides additional book reviews. The use of media in Mexico's Programa Nacional de Alfabetizacion is described by Linda King de Jardon in "Mexico's National Literacy Program." In "On File at ERIC," Barbara Minor reviews five ERIC reports and papers related to development communication. (LMM)
