Abstract | This book was developed as a practical guide for use by school personnel in the planning and development of school curriculum. The first two sections present outlines of the statutes, regulations, and policies pertaining to school curriculum and teacher preparation in North Dakota. A description of the curriculum development process includes a general curriculum planning guide and an outline of sequential planning steps for local curriculum development. Brief descriptions are also provided of developing experimental programs and noncourse activities. Specific descriptions are offered of the contents of academic subject areas taught in grades K-12, including in each case: (1) a statement of the philosophy underlying the course; (2) course objectives; (3) teacher preparation necessary for teaching the course; (4) grade level; (5) suggested course credits; (6) purpose of the course; and (7) primary emphasis of the course. Identical course outlines are provided for vocational education programs. (JD) |
