AbstractActivities to achieve sex equity at five demonstration sites funded by the Women's Educational Equity Act are summarized. The five sites, all local education agencies, are located in North Carolina, Massachusetts, Oregon, Arizona, and Florida. The document is organized into seven major sections. Following an introduction, Section 2 describes the characteristics of the five sites and presents data on faculty and student populations. Section 3 outlines the selection of equity materials, faculty reactions to resources, and implementation of resources at all levels. A chart demonstrates the usage of over 100 resources per school district. Section 4 focuses on the training of faculty, administrators, student teachers, student leaders, and media specialists. Compliance with Title IX is also discussed. Sections 5 and 6 describe intern and community outreach programs and public information products such as slide presentations and newsletters. Section 7 details measurement instruments used in evaluating elementary and secondary student outcomes. Findings suggest a higher degree of success among elementary students than either junior high school or high school students. Evidence also suggests that faculty are not only more aware of equity issues but also are changing their classroom behaviors. (KC)
