Abstract	Based on the realization that the rapid worldwide growth of educational systems over the last two decades has not produced the expected eradication of social inequality, an international seminar was held for educational policy-makers, planners from developing countries, research workers in the area, and representatives of aid agencies from 33 countries. Three principal topics were examined: the diagnosis of inequalities in education and possible future objectives in the area; strategies for the reduction of inequalities; and education and inequalities in the labor market. The perspective of the developing countries was emphasized throughout. This volume contains 20 papers presented at the conference. Educational inequality, educational expansion, and employment inequalities are examined in several areas: Yemen, Upper Volta, People's Republic of Benin, Ethiopia, Zanzibar, East Java, Cuba, Guatemala, Thailand, Vietnam, and Iran. Other papers examine the question from a more global or general perspective. This volume is a companion to another publication containing a report of the seminar, a synthesis of the discussions that took place, and a selection of five papers presented. (JM)
