Abstract | This manual is the first part of a two-volume teacher's guide to a series of instructional units for use in health occupations education programs in Texas. Covered in the 10 units included in this volume are the following topics: taking and recording vital signs; job applications and interviews; grooming and personal hygiene; health careers; medical ethics; medical terminology and abbreviations; medical asepsis; basic patient care (helping patients to dress and undress, denture care, measuring and recording fluid intake and output, assisting patients with nutritional needs, determining and recording weight and height, and assisting patients with personal grooming); admitting, transferring, and discharging patients; and office procedures in medical services (completing insurance forms, obtaining patient data, collecting and recording daily service charges and billing patients, arranging appointments and maintaining calendars, filing materials in patients' records, and making and receiving telephone calls). Each unit contains most or all of the following: objectives, suggested activities, information sheets, transparency masters, job sheets, assignment sheets, a unit test, and answers to the unit test.
