AbstractNorth Central Technical College's (NCTC's) strategic planning and human resource development model is described in this paper in terms of its role in assisting the college's service area in adapting to new technologies. First, background information is presented on NCTC's planning process with respect to the strategic goal areas of: (1) information processing, including the goals of computer literacy and the "paperless" office; (2) electronic delivery of educational goals and services; and (3) high technology education (i.e., advanced machine tool design, microelectronics, robotics, lightwave circuit technology). In addition, the impact of these goals on shaping equipment decisions is examined. Following a look at the transformation to a high technology, information society, the implications of this transformation for postsecondary education are explored, emphasizing institutional commitment to computer literacy and the use of new technologies in public service functions. Next, NCTC's role in community renewal is described, focusing on the college's involvement in such projects as the Community Education Service's continuing education program, and the Ohio Technology Transfer Organization, a statewide network providing small businesses with access to information and services needed for economic development. The final section summarizes the role of postsecondary education in a computer literate, high technology, information society. (LL)
