AbstractAn extensive resource manual and teaching guide is presented for the kindergarten teacher in the early French immersion program. The first three chapters contain introductory material discussing the kindergarten child, this particular program, language development in kindergarten, and the role of the kindergarten teacher which is analagous to that of a gardener who nurtures the growth of plants. The remaining 15 chapters deal with: (1) objectives of language development in kindergarten, (2) preparation for reading, (3) preparation for writing, (4) plastic arts and artistic experiences, (5) creative dramatic expression, (6) mathematics readiness activities, (7) movement exercises, (8) relaxation and leisure exercises, (9) music, (10) natural sciences, (11) human sciences, (12) what to do on the first day of class, (13) evaluation of the child's development, (14) spatial and material organization of the kindergarten, and (15) a variety of ingenious and useful ideas. Each of these chapters is presented in outline form and provides some theoretical background information, exercises, ways of presenting material, resource materials, as well as lesson content. Two appendices provide information on texts and supplementary materials and give suggestions for Christmas celebrations in class. (AMH)
