Abstract	The seven working papers in this collection set out the underlying philosophy and research methods of the Learning in Science Project. The project was established in 1979 to identify, describe, and investigate problems and difficulties in the teaching and learning of forms 1-4 science, and to explore possible solutions. The papers describe the frameworks established for the three phases of the project, consider strategies used to work with children both inside and outside the science classroom, and describe the workings of four action-research groups created to explore and evaluate possible solutions to some specific problems. Subject areas addressed by the action-research groups were biology, physics, chemistry, and science activities. (JN)
