Abstract	This publication reports on competitive sports played by 6 to 12 year old children in Australia. The information in this two-part report is directed toward teachers, coaches, and parents. Part I, "Modified Approaches to Junior Sport," provides discussion of aspects of physical, social, and emotional development associated with children playing adult sports, the role of parents and coaches, the implications of sexism and competition, and the advantages of modifying sports for children. Part II of the report contains a directory, of individual sports, that can be used as a reference as to rules and developments in the individual sports: archery; little athletics; Australian football; badminton; baseball; basketball; bowls; boxing; canoeing; cricket; croquet; cycling; fencing; golf; gymnastics; court handball; team handball; hockey; judo; karate; karting; lacrosse; life saving; netball; orienteering; racquetball; roller skating; rowing; rugby; snow skiing; soccer; softball; squash; swimming; tennis; trampoline; vigoro; volleyball; water skiing; wrestling; and yachting. Reports on the individual athletic activities evaluate existing conditions and discuss possible changes within the particular sport. (JD)
