AbstractThis pamphlet on conducting workshops and institutes is the ninth of 16 in a series to provide leaders in adult activities with sound introductory material to give practical help in using a method of adult education or working in a particular area. Its objective is to help leaders who conduct workshops or institutes to increase their skills and insight. Ten articles and how-tos are included. "Human Values in the Workshop Method" discusses what is compatible between the method and the nature of human beings. Several essential points in the preparation of the participant for an institute or workshop are illustrated in "Planning for Participation.""The Workshop Training Process" describes 11 steps in training workshop participants and suggests ways the workshop leader can help the participants take these steps. "That Crucial First Session" discusses group rapport and presents suggestions to meet individual needs. Using small work groups at conferences is the focus of "Organizing Work Groups;""Using Resource People" looks at whom to use and when. The next article presents eight "Points for Participants.""Learning Through Play" spells out some devices for social experience in workshops and suggests a rationale for their contribution. Specific suggestions for maximizing application are offered in "Back Home Application." The final article, "Evaluation," discusses sensible assessment methods for workshops and institutes. (YLB)
