Abstract | This package contains a teacher's card catalogue of 100 lesson plans (on cards) dealing with individual life skills topics to be used with English-as-a-second-language students, plus a teacher's guide for using the lessons. The cards are directed toward a specific competency, with 20 cards in each of five Adult Performance Level (APL) areas: occupational knowledge, consumer economics, health and safety, government and law, and community resources. Each card contains the following information: (1) a number/letter heading keyed to the participant's life skills checklist; (2) estimated classroom teaching time; (3) the APL area; (4) the specific life skills topic; and (5) the lesson plan. Each lesson plan includes teacher preparation, basic skills to be acquired by participants, specific activities, demonstration of competence, and individual life skill activity. Material resources are coded to correspond to a bibliographic listing in the teacher's guide. The packet was designed for intermediate-level ESL students. The teacher's guide that accompanies the cards describes the project need, product, method of determining product scope, and product evaluation procedures; and provides a participant's life skills checklist and a bibliography of resource materials.
