Abstract | This module on owning and operating a welding business is one of 36 in a series on entrepreneurship. The introduction tells the student what topics will be covered and suggests other modules to read in related occupations. Each unit includes student goals, a case study, and a discussion of the unit subject matter. Learning activities are divided into individual activities, discussion questions, and a group activity. Units (and subject matter) in this module are planning your business (products and services; important personal qualities; how to compete; legal requirements); choosing a location (factors to consider; checking a location); getting money to start (business description; statement of financial need) being in charge (dividing the work; paying for services; hiring employees; supervising and training employees); organizing the work (planning a job; work order; work schedule); setting prices (costs, expenses, and profits; other factors that affect prices); advertising and selling (advertising methods; what makes a good ad; selling your products and services; "selling" yourself); keeping financial records (planninq your recordkeeping; handling credit; daily cash sheet); and keeping your business successful (the importance of cash flow; profit/loss statement; changing your business).
