Abstract | This module on owning and operating a tree service is one of 36 in a series on entrepreneurship. The introduction tells the student what topics will be covered and suggests other modules to read in related occupations. Each unit includes student goals, a case study, and a discussion of the unit activity. Units (and subject matter) in this module are: planning your business (what does a tree service do; who will be your customers; is there room for you; skills; experience; personal qualities); choosing a location (convenience; contacts; chances of success; office rental); getting money to start (business description; statement of financial need); being in charge (hiring people; job description; training new people; decision making); organizing the work (keeping appointments; estimates; work order form; work schedules); setting prices (the break-even point; competitive pricing); advertising and selling (types of ads); keeping financial records (billing; daily cash sheet); and keeping your business successful (profit/loss statement; net profit; profit ratio; how to increase profits). A summary and quiz complete the document. (A teacher's guide is available for this module.) (CT) |
