Abstract	Prepared to stimulate discussion on how to design a Swedish policy in information science and technology, this report presents the state-of-the-art of this field as it pertains to the dissemination of scientific information and outlines a program for future research and development. The review portion examines systems for current information retrieval, teleconferencing, office information, and library automation; investigates common problem areas of database design; provides impressions gained from research into artificial intelligence and linguistics; reviews ongoing projects in library automation in the United States; relates current research in Sweden to the discussion of common problem areas; and discusses the need for cooperation among Swedish research organizations. The remainder of the report describes a proposed research and development framework for the Delegation for Scientific and Technical Information (DFI), discusses a suitable research organization by contrasting existing models, summarizes the main proposals for DFI policy, and establishes a time schedule for action. Appendices list research groups working with information processing in Sweden, and contacts used in formulating the report. A 90-item bibliography is included. (RAA)
