Abstract	Presented is a synthesis of reports designed to assess the development of marine science and technology in African coastal states. This situation is analyzed from a regional (i.e., continent-wide) point of view. Five chapters comprise the report: (1) summary of recommendations, (2) introduction; (3) nation-by-nation descriptions and analyses; (4) main issues and observations; and (5) recommendations. Emphasized are needs in the areas of education, research, regional cooperation, and technological development. (Author/WB)
