Abstract | This document, a curriculum guide for auto mechanics for secondary students, is one of six guides developed for inservice teachers at Marianas High School in Saipan. The guide provides the rationale, description, goals, and objectives of the program; the program of studies and performance objectives by levels; samples of lesson plans for effective delivery of instruction; and a listing of references. Concepts covered include definition of power, craftsmanship and safety, career opportunities, metric and American standard systems of measurement, tools, fasteners, energy sources and power, aspects of energy transfer, explanation of combustion including some basic physics, heat engines, operations, types, principles and design, and support systems for common internal combustion engines. Appended are lesson plans for teaching power mechanics, engine design and theory of operation (AC generator), engine overhaul and service, electrical system, welding, body fender and painting, lubricating system, and cooling system.
