Abstract | The obvious, persistent, and unfortunate lack of communication and interaction among researchers and research centers provides a starting point and focus for this monograph. Three sets of connections are commonly assumed to be weak: between researchers in the First and Third Worlds; among researchers within the Third World; and between researchers in education and those in other fields. The main vehicle for description and analysis is a case study of the changing worlds of research within Latin America. Observations and conclusions drawn from a look at the Latin American region are used to make comparisons with other Third World settings. Suggestions are presented for improving the communication and interaction across worlds of research so that, in turn, the process of carrying out and using research might be improved. (Author/JD) |
