| Abstract | This publication on vocational education needs of students is the second in the Self-Help series of five booklets designed for Alaska administrators and teachers to improve vocational services provided to handicapped pupils. It begins with a checklist of implications for administrators and teachers. Definitions of handicapping conditions are then defined. A review of handicapped needs in vocational education is followed by a summary of parents' perspectives on needs. Other sections focus on (1) special attitudinal barriers from the viewpoint of handicapped students, teachers, administrators, parents, and employers; (2) other significant barriers; (3) identifying district vocational needs of handicapped students; (4) suggested steps to needs identification and planning; and (5) needs identification strategies. A sample technique/tool for identifying individual student needs is provided for use at the classroom level. Questions for further discussion and a bibliography are provided. (YLB) |
