| Abstract | This issue of the "Nevada Public Affairs Review" focused primarily on the politics of state taxing and spending in Nevada. The articles present several aspects of this topic, including a comparison of taxation in Nevada with that in other states, an analysis of the growth of the gaming industry in Nevada, an argument for removing Nevada's tax on food, a discussion of the funding of education in Nevada, an analysis of the budgetary implications of the changing patterns of enrollment at the University of Nevada at Reno, a look at the financial outcomes for public education of the 1979 session of the state legislature, a breakdown of the effects of the legislature's 1979 tax package, a presentation of the effects of Nevada's S.B. 204 on local governments, a Nevada county administrator's look at the budget process, and a table showing local government budgets for fiscal year 1979-80. Articles not specifically about Nevada include a defense of the property tax and an article on the impact of Proposition 13 in California. (JM) |
