Abstract	These military-developed curriculum materials for a course for orthopedic specialists are targeted for students from grades 11 through the adult level. The course is designed to provide a working knowledge of the application of casts, traction, and splints to orthopedic patients and the removal of these devices; a working knowledge of assisting in minor surgical procedures; and a general knowledge of human anatomy and basic orthopedic principles. The course consists of nine academic subject areas covering 183 hours of instruction. The course package consists of a list of instructional objectives, description of the scope of subjects covered in the course, instructional guides, two technical manuals, demonstrations, and sample examinations. Subjects covered in the manuals are anatomy and physiology, care and handling of orthopedic patients, medical terminology, orthopedic conditions, methods and materials used for orthopedic appliances, supply procedures, patient relationship, and practical aspects of clinical management and application of orthopedic appliances. Demonstrations deal with the application of various types of casts and bandages. A text, Orthopedic Nursing Procedures, is to be used in conjunction with this course--see note. (MN)
