Abstract	This is the final report from a three-year project to develop and provide information to assist in setting national priorities for research and development in vocational education. The major objective of the third year was to obtain a more future-oriented perspective on needed research and development. To accomplish this objective, papers and proceedings from two conferences conducted by the National Center for Research in Vocational Education were analyzed to identify suggestions for research and development, and recommendations were obtained from a national panel of researchers and administrators. Among the findings was that all of these different sources agreed that in the 1980s vocational education will be a more diverse enterprise than it has been in the past. There are likely to be more older clients and proportionally more minorities and individuals who will need special services. Anticipated high rates of technological innovation and limited resources for modernization of equipment indicate that vocational education will have to cooperate much more with employers and other providers of training.
