Abstract | This book presents descriptive statistical results from a national survey which examines values and lifestyles of high school seniors. The volume, fifth in a series, presents data from 1979; other volumes report results from 1975 through 1978. Each year the study surveys a large and representative sample of high school seniors nationwide. In 1979, 16,662 seniors in 111 public and 20 private high schools participated in the research. The report is presented in three sections. Section I introduces the report, explains how respondents were selected, and identifies major areas of interest to project developers, including drug abuse, government, social institutions, race relations, changing roles for women, educational aspirations, occupational aims, and marital and family status and plans. Section II contains tables of data describing all survey questions and the frequency distribution of responses. Section III presents a cross-time index of questionnaire items which includes a key for locating items related to a specific subject matter.
