Abstract	This newsletter reports on significant events organized by the European Information Centre of Charles University, Prague, and on activities in the field of further education of teachers in Europe. Reports on the following topics are included: (1) new trends in teacher education in the contemporary world; (2) perspectives on the life-long education of teachers in an international survey; (3) concept and research of the preparedness of teachers for the performance of their profession; (4) new teacher professionalism; (5) role of the teacher in forming the personality of the young generation in a socialist society; (6) international project on innovative approaches to the inservice education of teachers; (7) survey of the main trends of development in the further education of teachers in the USSR; (8) programs and aids for the further education of teachers in East Germany; (9) forms of cooperation between educational science and teaching practice in the USSR; (10) project of the system of education professions, qualifications, and specializations in Czechoslovakia; and (11) information sources on inservice teacher education in the ERIC system. An annotated bibliography contains references to further writings on education in the socialist countries. (JD)
