Abstract | The annual report on graduate education programs funded under Title IX of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, Part E, submitted by the Secretary of Education to the Congress, is presented. Because of the transition to the new Department of Education before the 1980 report was due, it was decided to update the 1979 report and submit a consolidated report for fiscal years 1978 to 1980. This combined report on graduate education includes specific data on the Public Service Program, Domestic Mining and Mineral and Mineral Fuel Conservation Programs, the Legal Assistance for the Disadvantaged Program, and the Graduate and Professional Opportunities Program. Data are also included in the special programs provided for female and minority graduate students. Findings from data in the files of the Title IX programs on the following information are summarized: levels of funding, number of institutions, students receiving awards for academic years 1978-79 through 1980-81, and institutionally reported program outcomes for 1976-77. Appendices include a summary paper entitled "Major Concerns Confronting Graduate and Professional Education" and a report on Title IX awards for fiscal years 1976 through 1980 based on program files.
