AbstractVolume 3 of a nine volume report on a national survey (33 states) of the media and materials needs of special education teachers and students presents a statistical analysis of the media and materials development needs of teachers of the educable mentally retarded, learning disabled, or emotionally disturbed/behavior disordered. A demographic description of this group of teacher respondents is given and public and nonpublic teachers are differentiated. Respondents' top three priorities for material and media development at the cluster curriculum level were in reading, social development, and mathematics. At the more specific curriculum area level, respondents expressed greatest needs for media and materials in the areas of appropriate social behavior, reading comprehension, and word attack skills. A detailed analysis of the distribution of student characteristics for which the highest priority material needs exist showed elementary aged children and learning disabled children were most frequently selected as having the greatest needs. Also provided are a demographic description of the priority needs of subgroups of respondents. (DB/PHR)
