Abstract	The current social context surrounding educational administration in Australia includes a general crisis of confidence in administration, growth in administrator education programs and educational institutions, and more complex and diverse problems surrounding education in general. Administrators' roles have multiplied and become more diverse, and this change has made administrator preparation more complex. Two issues relating to administrator education are important: issues of structure such as form and content of courses, selection of administrators, and control over the preparation of administrators; and issues of emphasis such as the fundamental concern over the purpose and motivation of the administrator and over the need for a reexamination of the purpose and rationale of courses, of the legitimacy of training institutions, of the implications of participation, of the interrelation between politics and education, and of the accountability of institutions of preparation. The variety and significance of the issues identified calls for a major and vigorous reconsideration of the goals of preparation programs and the means for achieving them. (Author/JM)
