| Abstract | This student workbook is designed to help Micronesian adults learn everyday English. Its ten chapters move from simple one-word picture labeling to more abstract ideas in a spiraled fashion, reiterating the essential elements of the English language in different, more complicated ways. Subjects covered include names for everyday objects and places; colors and numbers; names for emotions and physical characteristics; daily activities such as talking, watching television, reading, writing, and telephoning; transporation; telling time; work; clothes; food; shopping; money; parts of the body; and doctors and dentists. All exercises are illustrated with drawings or photographs of Micronesians; occasionally the Micronesians are shown interacting with Americans. Both written and conversational exercises are contained in the workbook. Written exercises include fill-in-the-blanks, compositions, multiple choice, and crossword puzzles. Conversational exercises focus on practical life situations such as cashing a check, shopping at a grocery store, and taking English classes. (KC) |
