Abstract	These conference proceedings of the Association for Moral Education contain papers on the evaluation of moral development and of moral education programs at all levels. In section I, "Evaluating Moral Education Perspectives and Examples," models of moral development that have influenced theory and practice during the past ten years are described and contrasted, and new directions in evaluating specific moral education programs are illustrated. Specific instruments and techniques that have been developed to assess moral reasoning are then described. Of all the instruments presented, only Kohlberg's Moral Judgment Instrument and James Rest's Defining Issues Test have been extensively validated. Section II on "Alternative Modes for Assessing Moral Judgment" describes Kohlberg's Moral Judgment Instrument, includes an interview with Kohlberg on the history of his sequential stage theory and his current thinking and reviews the Defining Issues Test which is the most widely used measure of moral judgment. Also included in this section is a description of a new measure called the Socio-Moral Reflection Measure and discussions of efforts to create instruments that integrate the evaluation of both content and growth in moral reasoning in a single measure. Section two concludes with two descriptions of more global evaluation strategies. The third and final section "Evaluation Strategies for Programs with a Value Dimension" deals with issues of integrating moral education into the curriculum of the schools. (Author/RM)
