| Abstract | Comparative data on physical plant costs and staffing in higher education for 1978-79 are presented. Questionnaires were sent to member institutions of the Association of Physical Plant Administrators of Universities and Colleges (APPA) and the National Association of College and University Business Officers. Unit cost summaries and wage and salary summaries are provided by six APPA regions, by type of maintenance activity, and by type of school (two-year, four-year, graduate, medical). Graphs are presented to indicate: cost per square foot versus gross square feet by the type of maintenance activities; full-time-equivalent employees versus gross square feet by the type of maintenance activities; mean salaries of selected positions; and mean salaries of selected positions by type of school/academic program. A sample questionnaire and APPA classification of accounts for physical plants are appended. (SW) |
