Abstract | This guide is designed to assist in the classroom application by second language teachers of "total physical response." The underlying concept is that the assimilation of information and skills can be accelerated through the use of the kinesthetic sensory system. Part I presents the problems that people experience in their attempt to acquire a second language, and one possible solution in an instructional strategy based on the kinesthetic system. Evidence from research is summarized, which documents the effect that the kinesthetic channel has in making a second language learnable. Part II is a question-and-answer section to satisfy the information needs of the teacher. Part III is a lesson-by-lesson plan based on a genuine training log (created by Carol Adamski) as it was applied to teaching English as a second language to adults through 150 hours of classroom instruction. Fifty-three lessons are included. A brief bibliography and a list of films are appended. (Author/JB) |
