Abstract | This rationale for the German immersion program of the Milwaukee public schools (grades K-5) sets forth general and specific program goals as well as criteria for evaluating communicative competence. A list of sample exercises for specific communicative acts (e.g., telling, informing, requesting) is included. Topics for oral and written communication (vocabulary units) are set forth in the form of lesson plan themes for each of the six grades. General considerations for the teaching of spelling and reading are outlined, and several specific readers are briefly described. The guide concludes with a table of topics for grammar instruction, with tables in which the teacher can insert keywords for lesson plans at each of the six levels. (JB) |
