| Abstract | The purpose of this report is to present a brief, understandable overview of the New York City Board of Education budget for 1978-79. Toward this end, the expense budget has been organized into eight major functional areas: direct instructional programs, indirect instructional programs, ancillary pupil support programs, school buildings, city and districtwide administration, miscellaneous expenses, debt service, and non-public and adult education. The cost components of each of these areas is explained and data are presented in tabular and textual form. Also indicated is the distribution of costs for different educational levels (elementary, junior high, high school, and special education). (Author/GC) |
