Abstract | Problems and barriers concerning transfer policies, residency, and graduation requirements that women often face when reentering the educational system are identified. Additionally, ways in which institutions can be more responsive to the needs of reentry students are suggested. A wide range of possible actions is included so that institutions can pursue those appropriate to their individual circumstances. Credit transfer is one of the major barriers to women seeking to reenter college. The following topics are considered: credit by examination; the time limit for completion of graduate study; credit for prior experience; the requirement that all or a certain number of credits can be earned as a full-time student; extension courses and residency; courses for military personnel; special populations; legal considerations; recruitment of reentry women as transfer students; admissions; counseling; registration; and other student services. A selected list of resources is included. (SW) |
