Abstract | This volume, second in a series of five, focuses on methods to evaluate sex education programs. It is presented in five chapters. Chapter One critically reviews previously used methods of evaluating programs and makes suggestions for improving those evaluations. Problems of experimental designs which incorporate an experimental/control group and student surveys include control of error, failure to measure potentially important consequences, selective publication of successful results, nonrandomness of courses selected for evaluation, and poor instrumentation. Chapter Two discusses advantages and disadvantages of major types of methodological designs for school programs and recommends designs for particular goals. Chapter Three discusses different methods of obtaining new information about important features and outcomes of sex education programs. Chapter Four presents results of a survey in which experts rated topics of importance in a sex education program. Chapter Five provides and discusses six questionnaires for measuring features and outcomes of programs identified in Chapter Four. (Author/KC) |
