Abstract | The job position of military advisory and assistance group (MAAG) officer for the Air Force as performed in Iberian Spanish is described in terms of terminal skill objectives (TSOs) and enabling objectives (EOs). This analysis is part of the communication/language objectives-based system (C/LOBS), which supports the front-end analysis efforts of the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center. The C/LOBS project, which is described in 13 volumes and an executive summary, functions as a subsystem of the instructional systems development approach currently in use in the TRADOC school system. Five job/duty positions and three languages were selected for field testing and system validation. This volume presents the results of the task analysis of Iberian Spanish language requirements for MAAG officers stationed in Madrid. The nature of the language requirement of the MAAG job is reflected in seven TSOs. Each TSO specifies one of six communicative activities which define the communicative parameters of the job. In four of the seven TSOs, more than one role is indicated, and all of the TSOs list at least three topics about which the MAAG officer may be required to communicate. Following each TSO a mapping sheet is provided to direct the user to the materials which further define both the communicative activities and the Spanish language necessary to accomplish those tasks. The EOs provide a detailed outline of each communicative activity required. A listing of the language function required to perform the communicative activity is included. (SW) |
