| Abstract | This document provides a State by State overview of the child count and grant awards under the Indochina Refugee Children Assistance Program for fiscal years 1978 and 1980. The Indochina Refugee Children Assistance Program provides Federal financial assistance to States for educational services to Indochinese refugee children aged 5 through 17 years, admitted into the United States on or after January 1, 1977, and receiving public educational services under the supervision of a local educational agency in one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, or the outlying territories. The children are enrolled in elementary and secondary schools. Children entering U.S. public schools for the first time during the 1979-80 school year are provided priority in services under this program. National totals show that there are 66,300 Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Laotian children in 2,500 school districts that are participating in the program during fiscal year 1981. The total grant award for fiscal year 1980 was $11,999,663. (Author/MK) |
