AbstractThe following Title I and Impact Aid programs carried out in Bronx, New York's Community School District 10 are evaluated in this report: (1) a reading program providing remedial instruction to students in grades K-9; (2) a non public school component providing remedial reading and mathematics instruction to eligible students in grades 1-8 at private schools located within the district; (3) an Optional Assignment Reading Program for students in grades 7-9. A major goal of all three programs was to significantly increase the achievement of students from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds. Program objectives were achieved in the K-9 reading program and the non public school component, though not in the Optional Assignment Reading Program. Data presented in this evaluation include: program objectives, classroom observation reports, interview data from teachers, educational assistants and parents of participating students, pre and post achievement test results, and the status of objective attainment for each component.
