| Abstract | A model that depicts communication as a dynamic ongoing phenomenon is presented in this paper. The key elements of the described model are: environmental factors, actor/auditor, image, perception, messages, channels, intrapersonal feedback, and consensus of meaning. An axiomatic basis is provided for each variable to serve as rules of correspondence between the variable as treated in the model and human interaction. The discussion of each variable includes an evaluation of past treatments and a justification for the present notation. This discussion reflects the model's isomorphic properties. The paper concludes with a number of research questions that reflect the model's heuristic properties. (Author) |
