Abstract | This report focuses on the learning and development of primary and secondary school children, employing an "ecology of human development" model. This model is defined as involving the scientific study of the accommodation between growing human beings and the changing immediate settings in which they live and learn. The conceptual framework for the study is described, and then applied to an analysis of the environment of the school age child. Environmental factors that should have the most powerful impact on school effectiveness, from this theoretical viewpoint, are explored. A number of previous studies are described and analyzed, in order to illustrate the utility of the ecological model. (Author/WP) |
