Abstract | This is the teacher's manual for the listening comprehension portion of a course in English as a second language for adult nursing aide students. Eleven units cover basic nursing skills. Each unit consists of combinations of stories, lectures, and dictations read by the teacher, often with visual aids. There are "practice listening" sessions and sets of verbal directions to which the student must make the correct response. Finally, various classroom games are included in several of the units. The topics covered include: (1) introducing "Pilikia Nui Hospital," (2) doctors and departments at the hospital, (3) duties of nursing aides, (4) first day in the hospital, (5) human anatomy, (6) asepsis, (7) abbreviations and measurements, (8) hospital emergencies, (9) colors in the hospital, (10) subjective symptoms, and (11) facing death.
