AbstractThis periodical contains special reports, reviews, and notes of recent documents on education in Asia and Oceania. The first section contains special reports on Pakistan's new educational policy and Thailand's new educational system. Pakistan's 1978 policy provides for village workshops for out-of-school youth; a national council on adult education; citizen's education through radio, television, cinema, newspapers, and pulpits of mosques; production-oriented vocational education; 30 Arabic teaching centers; federal funding of universities; and a research center to examine student attitudes, issues, and problems. The implementation of the National Scheme of Education in 1977 brought several changes to Thailand's educational system: education is now considered a life-long process; educational administration is decentralized although curricula is determined by central authorities; and more elective vocational subjects are available. The second section presents reviews of recent publications. Included are studies of vocational training in higher secondary education in India, universal primary education in Indonesia, early childhood education in Malaysia, and adult education in India. The third section contains a brief report on equipment for science education in Australia and the Centre for Production and Training for Adult Education Television in Singapore. The final section, Notes on Asian Documents, describes numerous major publications of the Educational Documentation and Information Service of the Unesco regional office. Sources of documents and addresses are included. (KC)
