| Abstract | A study was conducted to determine the role of vocational agriculture/agribusiness programs in the occupational success of program graduates from the southern region. Cooperating researchers in ten southern states administered a two-page questionnaire by mail to a sample of 1974 graduates of high school vocational agriculture/agribusiness programs. The 1,252 respondents were primarily male, age 22-23, caucasian, from rural homes, employed in a nonagricultural job or farming, and earning over $10,000 annually. A majority of respondents completed three or four years of vocational agriculture and Future Farmers of America (FFA) activities, held the chapter farmer degree, and had several years of supervised experience programs. Experiences in vocational agriculture/agribusiness received high ratings from the graduates. They were in less agreement about teacher assistance, but highly supportive of specific program functions. Ninety-two percent said they would enroll again if they had it to do over. (Eleven recommendations made by the researchers and an annotated bibliography are included.) (Author/LRA) |
